ASTM International Visits Eastern University

ASTM International continues to offer valuable information and resources on standards to students and educators around the world.  In the past, ASTM’s campus visits have taken place at schools with major engineering programs.  However, during a recent campus visit to Eastern University near Philadelphia, ASTM staff member Jim Olshefsky was asked to speak to an International Business class.

Olshefsky spoke about how standards impact the international business environment and can add measurable value and support to the sound execution of corporate strategies related to international trade.  Other topics discussed included the World Trade Organization’s Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement and ASTM’s multiple path approach to international standardization.

Instructor Phillip Thomas, who hosted the visit, said  "The presentation to our undergraduate International Business class at Eastern University made our business students aware of a realm that has traditionally been a part of the engineering and science disciplines. The presentation introduced students not only to the mission and activities of ASTM International, but also to the necessity of international standards for trade.  I would heartily recommend that ASTM continue to build this awareness among undergraduate business students in the U.S.  and worldwide."
