ASTM International Seeks Participation in Development of Drowning Detection Standards

ASTM International’s consumer products committee (F15) invites all interested parties to join a new task group aimed at developing standards for computer vision-based drowning detection systems for residential use.

Advanced pool safety systems, particularly artificial intelligence-based drowning detection systems for residential pools would be covered by these potential standards. Systems could include underwater and other cameras, underwater installations that acquire video footage, and processors that run computer vision algorithms analyzing footage to differentiate between people and other objects.

ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards. Representatives from manufacturers, testing laboratories, consumer advocacy bodies, regulatory agencies, and others are invited to join in this new activity. Become a member at www.astm.org/JOIN.
