ASTM International Refractories Committee Seeks Participation in Standards Development

ASTM International’s committee on refractories (C08) is seeking volunteers to help develop a standard for measuring the heat of hydration when installing refractory castables, used to create linings for furnaces and kilns.

According to ASTM International member Maurice Cook, the type of test described in the proposed standard (WK54504) was used back in the 1960s but was never officially documented despite what is believed to be its apparent importance in ensuring quality and defect-free installations.

All interested parties are encouraged to join the refractories committee and participate in the development of the proposed standard. The committee will meet on Tuesday, March 20, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
