ASTM International Honors Fred Barnes with Lowrie B. Sargent Jr. Award

ASTM International’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02) has honored Fred Barnes, aviation fuels consultant (Gig Harbor, Washington, USA) with the Lowrie B. Sargent Jr. Award. 

Barnes was honored for his outstanding leadership in the work of the committee. He was previously honored by the committee with the Award of Excellence, Award of Appreciation, and the Kurt Strauss Steady Hand Award. 

An ASTM International member since 1983, Barnes has taught a technical training course in aviation fuel specifications and test methods for more than 20 years. He retired from Chevron in 2002, having previously worked for Shell Oil Company. 

Barnes holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri. 

In addition to ASTM International, Barnes is active with the American Petroleum Institute, International Air Transport Association, Energy Institute, Society of Automotive Engineers, Air Transport Association, National Air Transport Association, and the Coordinating Research Council.
