ASTM International’s Committee on Soil and Rock Honors Tuncer B. Edil with Woodland G. Shockley Memorial Award

Tuncer B. Edil, professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has received the Woodland G. Shockley Memorial Award from ASTM International committee on Soil and Rock (D18). 

The committee recognized Edil for his exceptional and long meritorious service to the activities of committee D18. An ASTM International member since 1984, he has also received the committee’s the Special Service Award (2001, 2013), the Technical Editors Award (2013), and the Standards Development Award (1992, 1996, 2013, and 2017).

Edil holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering from Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey, and a doctorate in civil engineering from Northwestern University. He has previously served as an assistant professor, associate professor, and a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In addition to ASTM International, Edil is a member of the US Council on Geotechnical Research and Education, American Society of Civil Engineers, International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the Transportation Research Board.
