ASTM Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems Names New Chair, Michael I. Howell

Michael I. Howell, operations manager for Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems in Huntsville, Ala., has become the new chair of ASTM Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The committee includes 180 members in a three-tiered subcommittee structure focusing on airworthiness, flight operations, and operator qualifications.

Howell also lives in Huntsville, Ala.

In addition to ASTM International, which he joined in 2005, Howell is a member of the Army Aviation Association of America, Leadership Huntsville/Madison County, the Association of the United States Army, where he is the Redstone-Huntsville Chapter executive vice-president, and the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, where he is on the Pathfinder Chapter board of directors.

Howell graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor of business administration degree in behavioral management, and he earned a master of arts degree in operations research/management at Texas A&M University.
