ASTM Committee on Consumer Products Approves New Subcommittee on Lead in Children's Vinyl Products

ASTM International Committee F15 on Consumer Products invites all interested parties to participate in a new subcommittee, F15.62 on Lead in Children’s Vinyl Products. Committee F15 was requested by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to explore ways to eliminate or significantly reduce children’s exposure to lead in consumer products.

The parameters of the new subcommittee were discussed at an organizational meeting in August. The initial goal of the subcommittee is to develop standardized test methods for exposure to and total lead content in vinyl products for children. Bibs, lunchboxes, juvenile furniture, public and residential playground equipment, children’s clothing and strollers are among the items that F15.62 may consider in their development of proposed new standards.

For further technical information or if you wish to participate in the activities of this new subcommittee, contact Leonard Morrissey, Technical Committee Operations, ASTM International (phone: 610/832-9719; lmorriss@astm.org).
