Anita Sawyer Honored by ASTM International Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices Committee

Anita Sawyer, independent biocompatibility consultant, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, was honored with the Patrick G. Laing Award by ASTM International’s medical and surgical materials and devices committee (F04). 

An ASTM International member since 1998, Sawyer was honored for her significant and outstanding contributions in the field of medical and surgical devices.

Sawyer has served as an independent biocompatibility consultant since her retirement last year, having previously held positions with BOC Group-Ohmeda Medical, Cordis Corporation-A J&J Company, and Becton Dickinson. She holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Syracuse University, a master’s degree in biology from Bridgeport University, and a Ph.D. in pathology and toxicology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry at Rutger’s University.

In addition to ASTM International, Sawyer is a member of the Society for Biomaterials, International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Society of Toxicology (SOT), and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP).
