Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Announces Call for Projects

Today, ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced a new Call for Projects (CFP) that will allow non-AM CoE partners to participate in a Research to Standardization initiative to further accelerate standards development for additive manufacturing (AM).

To date, the AM CoE has supported 22 R&D projects under a Request for Ideas (RFI) process which allows ASTM International technical committee members to submit standardization ideas, with projects then completed by AM CoE partner organizations. Due to an increased interest from the AM industry, the center expanded project calls with this new CFP allowing non-AM CoE partners to receive support for projects that support closing AM standardization gaps.

“We are thrilled to unveil this new CFP funding mechanism,” says Mohsen Seifi, Ph.D., ASTM International’s director of global additive manufacturing programs. “This new mechanism will create stronger collaborative relationships between ASTM International, its AM CoE partners, and global stakeholders in additive manufacturing, empowering the industry to address critical standardization needs. The CFP is aiming to focus on closing standardization gaps including the ones that have been identified in the AMSC roadmap.”

  • Several themes for AM research and development topics are highlighted in this CFP, including:
  • Design and data management,
  • Feedstock handling and management,
  • Processing,
  • Post-processing,
  • Testing, and qualification.

Letters of Intent are due by Oct. 28, 2020, in order to participate in an informational webinar to be held on Nov. 2nd at 10 a.m. EST. Further details on this CFP can be found at https://amcoe.org/project-calls/call-for-projects-2020

Formed in 2018, the AM CoE is a collaborative partnership among ASTM International and representatives from industry, governments, and academia, that conduct strategic R&D to advance standards across all aspects of AM technologies. The center aims to accelerate the development and adoption of robust, game-changing technologies. For more on the AM CoE, visit www.amcoe.org
