ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to James Barker for his contributions to ASTM’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Barker was recognized for his vast technical contributions to fuel standards, his role as an active thought leader within D02, and willingness to go above and beyond in giving guidance.
An ASTM International member since 2005, Barker has been previously honored by the committee with two Awards of Appreciation (2014, 2019), the Award of Excellence (2018) and the Eagle Award (2021).
Barker is a senior research fellow at Innospec, a position he has held since 2021, though he has been with the company for over 36 years. His career focus is chemistry, and his role at Innospec involves improving and developing test methods for various markets, such as petroleum. He also holds memberships in the Royal Society of Chemistry, American Chemical Society, Society of Automotive Engineers, and Energy Institute (London).
